God is Just (Psalm 9 & Amos 5:21-24)

Last Sunday we reflected together on the precious truth that God is merciful. He does not relish taking revenge on his enemies or making us pay for our sins and failures. He is rich in mercy and gentle with us. Our salvation and our hope rest on this truth about God.

This Sunday we are reflecting together on a seemingly contradictory truth about God, but one that is equally precious - God is Just. God doesn't sweep wrongdoing under the carpet. God does bring down the bad guys. And our salvation and our hope rest on this truth about God as well!

How can God be both just and merciful? That's the wonder of the gospel! In the cross of Christ, where God's justice and mercy meet, we find hope for the world groaning under injustice and for us sinners, in need of mercy.
